PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC goalkeeper Nadine Angerer was named to the 23-player Germany Women’s National Team roster for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada, it was announced today. The roster will not become official until it is submitted to FIFA on May 25, which is the deadline for all teams to submit their final squads.
The Germany Women’s National Team will play Switzerland in a friendly on May 27 before starting World Cup play. Playing in Group B, Germany plays its first two matches in Ottawa at Lansdowne Stadium against Ivory Coast on June 7 and against Norway on June 11; both matches kick off at 1 p.m. (Pacific). Germany closes out group play in Winnipeg at Winnipeg Stadium against Thailand on June 15; kickoff is set for 1 p.m. (Pacific). The 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup runs from June 6-July 5 and all 52 games will be shown live on FOX, FOX Sports 1, FOX Sports 2 and on tablets and mobile devices through the FOX Sports GO app and FOXSportsGO.com.
Angerer, 36, has earned 138 international caps and 2015 will mark her fifth FIFA Women’s World Cup roster selection for Germany. A two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champion in 2003 and 2007, Angerer has recorded seven shutouts in 11 FIFA Women’s World Cup matches. In the 2007 tournament, Angerer did not concede a single goal and saved a penalty kick in a 2-0 win in the championship match against Brazil. With her performance, Angerer set the record for most consecutive minutes played without conceding a goal in World Cup play (540) and was named the 2007 Women’s World Cup Best Goalkeeper.
The 2013 FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year, Angerer started 22 games in her first season with Thorns FC in 2014, ranking fourth in the NWSL in saves (74). Angerer started three matches, recording one shutout this season before returning to Germany to begin preparations for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
