Timbers Andrés Flores, Andy Polo named to final national team rosters for Concacaf Gold Cup, CONMEBOL Copa América

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers midfielders Andrés Flores (El Salvador) and Andy Polo (Peru) will represent their respective national teams at the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup and CONMEBOL Copa América 2019, with both players being named to final 23-man rosters for the respective competitions.   


The 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup will take place from June 15-July 7 in the United States, Costa Rica and Jamaica. Flores and El Salvador will compete in Group C alongside Curaçao (June 17 at Independence Park in Kingston, Jamaica), Jamaica (June 21 at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas) and Honduras (June 25 at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles). 


Flores, 28, has joined the El Salvador Men’s National Team ahead of a friendly match against Japan at the Kirin Challenge Cup 2019 at Hitomebore Stadium Miyagi in Rifu, Miyagi, Japan, on Sunday, June 9, beginning at 3 a.m. (Pacific). Flores has earned 61 caps for El Salvador since making his debut in 2010.


The CONMEBOL Copa América will be played in Brazil between June 14-July 7. Competing in Group A, Polo and Peru will face Venezuela (June 15 at Arena do Grêmio in Porto Alegre), Bolivia (June 18 at Estadio do Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro) and Brazil (June 22 at Arena Corinthians in São Paulo) during the tournament.


Polo, 24, joined the Peru Men’s National Team this week and made a substitute appearance in a 1-0 home win against Costa Rica in a friendly match on June 5. Peru will play one more friendly match before the team departs to Brazil, as they will host Colombia at Estadio Monumental “U” in Lima, Peru on Sunday, June 9; kickoff is set for 2 p.m. (Pacific). Polo’s inclusion marks the second time that he has been named to a CONMEBOL Copa América roster. Since making his senior team debut in 2016, Polo has earned 20 caps for Peru.
