Timbers Andrés Flores, David Guzmán, Alvas Powell called up for international matches

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers midfielders Andrés Flores and David Guzmán and defender Alvas Powell have been called up by their respective national teams for friendly matches, it was announced today. Guzmán will join Costa Rica for friendlies against South Korea on Sept. 7 and Japan on Sept. 11. Flores has been called in by El Salvador for a friendly against Brazil on Sept. 11, while Powell will join Jamaica for a friendly against Ecuador on Sept. 7. 


Guzmán and Powell will miss the Timbers’ league match against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, Sept. 8, but will return to the team ahead of Portland’s away contest at the Houston Dynamo on Saturday, Sept. 15. Flores will remain with the Timbers for the game against the Rapids.  


Flores, 28, has earned 59 caps for El Salvador since making his debut in 2010. El Salvador will take on Brazil at FedEx Field in Landover Md., on Tuesday, Sept. 11; kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. (Pacific).  


Receiving his first call-up since making three appearances for his country at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Guzmán and Costa Rica will face South Korea at Goyang Stadium in Goyang, South Korea, on Friday, Sept. 7, beginning at 4 a.m. (Pacific). Four days later, Costa Rica will travel to face Japan at Panasonic Stadium Suita in Suita, Japan, on Tuesday, Sept. 11, beginning at 3:20 a.m. (Pacific). Guzmán has earned 49 caps for the Costa Rican national team since making his debut in 2010. 


Powell, 24, and Jamaica will face off against Ecuador at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J., on Friday, Sept. 7; kickoff is set for 5 p.m. (Pacific). Since making his senior team debut in 2012, Powell has earned 35 caps for Jamaica.
