PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers announced their updated kickoff time against Tigres UANL in Leagues Cup 2023. Playing in West 1 Group, Portland and Tigres are set to square off at 8 p.m. (Pacific) on July 26 at Providence Park. Portland will also host San Jose Earthquakes at 7 p.m. (Pacific) on July 22 at Providence Park in the group stage of the tournament. Both matches will be broadcast on FS1, UniMas and TSN, as well as streamed live on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.

Portland is set to face Mexican powerhouse Tigres UANL for the second time in club history and second time at Providence Park. Portland has faced LIGA MX teams seven different times, including six friendly matches dating back to 2007 and in Concacaf Champions League play against Club America in May 2021. The Timbers last faced Tigres on July 15, 2008, defeating the Nuevo Leon-based club 2-0 in Portland. Portland will also take on the San Jose Earthquakes for the 35th time across all competitions dating back to the 2011 MLS season. Portland leads the all-time series with 18 victories, seven losses and nine draws. Notably, the Timbers have won 15 times and only dropped one result against the Earthquakes (15-1-4) when playing at Providence Park.

Beginning this year, MLS and LIGA MX will pause their respective league seasons in the summer and compete in Leagues Cup, an official Concacaf competition to be played across the U.S. and Canada. The inaugural edition will see all 47 clubs (18 from LIGA MX, 29 from MLS) compete in a World Cup-style tournament from July 21 - August 19, 2023. The champion and the second and third-place finishers will qualify for the Concacaf Champions League and have an opportunity to earn a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Advancing teams will compete in the single-game elimination knockout rounds, beginning with the round of 32 on August 2-4 (16 matches), followed by the round of 16 on August 6-8 (eight matches). The eight advancing teams will compete in the quarterfinals from August 11-12 (four matches) before the two semifinal matches on August 15.

The Leagues Cup 2023 final and third-place games will be played on Saturday, August 19 and determine the three clubs that will qualify for the 2024 Concacaf Champions League. The game times and broadcast assignments for the elimination rounds and finals will be announced once the qualifiers are known.
