PORTLAND, Ore.– Portland Timbers defender Mamadou “Futty” Danso has been recalled by The Gambia National Team for its friendly against Equatorial Guinea on Tuesday, March 29, in Malabo.
Danso, 27, will join the national team Thursday and will miss the Timbers’ regular-season match against Toronto FC on Saturday and the club’s U.S. Open Cup play-in game against Chivas USA on March 29. He is scheduled to return to Portland on March 30.
A native of Serekunda, The Gambia, Danso receives his third call-up with The Gambia National team. In 2010, he participated in two camps with the team for 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Namibia and Burkina Faso.
The Timbers travel to take on Toronto FC on Saturday at BMO Field; kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. (Pacific). Saturday’s contest will be broadcast live on ROOT Sports, with radio broadcasts on 95.5 The Game and in Spanish on La Pantera 940AM. Fans are invited to attend the Timbers’ official viewing party at Prost! in Northeast Portland, presented by ROOT Sports.
