PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers Academy teams head to California for a pair of matches this weekend, facing Cal Odyssey and the San Jose Earthquakes Academy on back-to-back days.
The Timbers U-18 Academy kicks off the weekend Saturday against Cal Odyssey at 12 noon (Pacific), with the Timbers U-16 Academy playing Cal Odyssey’s U-16s at 2:30 p.m. (Pacific); both matches will be held at the College of the Sequoias in Visalia, Calif.
On Sunday, the U-18 teams for the Timbers and Earthquakes meet at 10:30 a.m. and the Timbers U-16s and Earthquakes U-16s square off at 1:30 p.m. at the Nutrilite Training Facility in San Jose, Calif.
With one of the best defenses in the Northwest Division, the Timbers U-18s (2-3-2, 8pts) visit the winless Cal Odyssey (0-5-0, 0pts) and first-place Earthquakes U-18s (5-0-0, 15pts) this weekend. The Timbers U-18s are looking for their first road win of the campaign.
Looking to rebound from their first loss of the season on Nov. 3, the Timbers U-16s (2-1-4, 10pts) meet both the Cal Odyssey (1-3-1, 4pts) and Earthquakes U-16s (3-1-1, 10pts) for the first time. The Timbers U-16s are an unbeaten 1-0-3 on the road this season and sit in a three-way tie, along with the Earthquakes U-16s, for third place in the Northwest Division.
The matches in California will be the last for the Timbers Academy teams before heading to the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., on Nov. 29.
