Portland to open 2021 campaign April 18 on the road against Vancouver Whitecaps FC in Sandy, Utah
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers will play host to Houston Dynamo FC at Providence Park in the club’s 2021 home opener on Saturday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific), it was announced today as Major League Soccer unveiled details for each club’s home opening match.
Portland will open the 2021 MLS season – its 11th in MLS – on the road on Sunday, April 18, taking on Cascadia-rival Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah; kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (Pacific). The April 24 match against Houston marks the sixth time the Timbers open their home schedule against a Western Conference opponent. Since 2011, Portland is 5-2-3 in its MLS home openers.

Due to travel restrictions between the U.S. and Canada, the three Canadian clubs will begin the MLS regular season in the U.S. with each club hosting matches in a U.S. city:
- Montreal Impact: Miami, Fla.; Inter Miami CF Stadium
- Toronto FC: Orlando, Fla.; Exploria Stadium
- Vancouver Whitecaps FC: Sandy, Utah; Rio Tinto Stadium

Portland begins its 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League campaign by first traveling to face CD MarathĂłn at Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in the first leg of the Round of 16 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras on Tuesday, April 6 at 3 p.m. (Pacific), before playing host to MarathĂłn at Providence Park on Tuesday, April 13 at 5 p.m. (Pacific) in the second leg.
