Two-legged Round of 16 will see Portland travel to Honduras on Tuesday, April 6, before hosting CD Marathón at Providence Park on Tuesday, April 13
PORTLAND, Ore. – Concacaf today announced the schedule for the 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League (SCCL) Round of 16 matches. The Portland Timbers will first travel to face CD Marathón at Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in the first leg in San Pedro Sula, Honduras on Tuesday, April 6 at 3 p.m. (Pacific), before playing host to Marathón at Providence Park on Tuesday, April 13 at 5 p.m. (Pacific) in the second leg.

The Timbers qualified for the 2021 SCCL after defeating Orlando City SC 2-1 in the MLS is Back Tournament Final on Aug. 11, 2020. The 2021 edition of the competition marks Portland’s third appearance in the Concacaf Champions League tournament in the last eight seasons after qualifying as MLS Cup champions in 2015 and qualifying for the 2014-15 edition of the tournament by finishing with the best overall record from the conference opposite the MLS Supporters’ Shield winner in 2013.
CD Marathón competes in the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional de Honduras. Marathón advanced to the SCCL for a sixth time after qualifying through the 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf League, which took place in Dec. 2020. Marathon last participated in the SCCL in 2019 and reached the quarterfinals of the first two editions in 2008-09 and 2009-10.
The 2021 edition of the SCCL will continue to be played in a direct elimination knockout format, with home and away matches in the Round of 16, Quarterfinals and Semifinals. In an exciting development to this year’s edition of the competition, the final will be played as a single leg.
The Round of 16 will be followed by home and away quarterfinal matches in late April and early May, semifinals in August and September, and a single leg SCCL final in October.

For the Round of 16, the highest ranked club in each matchup will play the first leg away and the second leg at home. For the quarterfinals, the Round of 16 winners of matchups 1, 3, 5 and 7 will play the first leg away and the second leg at home.
Matches will be widely available for fans across the region to follow and enjoy through the Confederation’s TV partner networks, including FOX Sports (USA-English) and TUDN (USA-Spanish).
The winner of this elite club competition will be crowned regional club champion and will represent the confederation at the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup. The current champion is Mexican side Tigres UANL after they won the 2020 SCCL and subsequently performed impressively at the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar, where they became the first team from the Concacaf region to reach a Club World Cup final.
