PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers midfielder Andy Polo was called up by Peru for a pair of 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches during the international break.
Polo, 26, will miss the Timbers’ league match against the LA Galaxy on Wednesday, Oct. 7, missing five MLS matches in total, but will return to the team ahead of Portland’s regular-season match against the LA Galaxy at Providence Park on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
Receiving his first call-up since being named to Peru’s roster for a pair of friendlies in November of 2019, Polo and Peru will first square off against Paraguay at Estadio Defensores del Chaco in Asunción, Paraguay, on Thursday, Oct. 8, beginning at 4:30 p.m. (Pacific), before hosting Brazil on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at Estadio Nacional in Lima, Peru, at 5 p.m. (Pacific). Since making his senior team debut in 2016, Polo has earned 31 caps for Peru.
In 16 matches (5 starts) across all competitions for the Timbers in 2020, Polo has tallied one goal and one assist, including winning the MLS is Back Goal of the Tournament.
