Midfielder David Ayala suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in Portland’s match against St Louis CITY SC on April 29. Ayala will undergo a reconstructive surgery on Monday, May 8, that will be performed by Dr. Richard Edelson in Portland.
Ayala will miss the remainder of the season and his timeline for return is approximately nine months. He will conduct his rehabilitation with the Timbers sports medicine staff at Providence Park and at the Providence Sports Care Center.
Ayala, 20, started in three of his four appearances this season. The Argentine has played in 25 matches (11 starts) since joining the Timbers on February 1, 2022.
