Timbers Reserves visit Earthquakes Reserves in Western Conference matchup

The Portland Timbers Reserves open the second half of their MLS Reserve League schedule Sunday as they take on the San Jose Earthquakes Reserves at the Earthquakes Training Facility in San Jose, Calif., at 11 a.m. (Pacific). 

The Timbers Reserves are in third place in the West Division in the MLS Reserve League, with an overall record of 3-2-2 (11pts), just ahead of the fourth-place Earthquakes Reserves (3-3-0, 9pts).

Sunday’s match between the Timbers Reserves and Earthquakes Reserves is the second and final time the two teams will meet during the 2013 MLS Reserve League season. In the first game played on April 15 at JELD-WEN Field, the Timbers Reserves defeated the Earthquakes Reserves 2-1 with two goals netted by midfielder Michael Nanchoff.

The Timbers Reserves hit the road for the third time in its last four games for Sunday’s matchup. The team had a four-game unbeaten streak come to an end in a 1-0 loss in its last match July 14 at JELD-WEN Field.


The Earthquakes Reserves are on a three-game winning streak after losing its first three games of the MLS Reserve League season. In their most recent match, the Earthquakes Reserves took on Antigua Barracuda FC of USL PRO, earning a 6-0 win with two goals from forward Adam Jahn. 

The Timbers Reserves return home Sunday, Aug. 4, to play host to the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Reserves at JELD-WEN Field at 2 p.m. (Pacific). That match is part of a doubleheader with Portland Thorns FC, who take on FC Kansas City in a nationally televised match on FOX Soccer at 5:30 p.m. Tickets for the doubleheader can be purchased online or at the JELD-WEN Field box office; one ticket allows entry into both matches.
