The Portland Timbers are riding a six-game winning run, and now their hottest striker is on an AT&T Goal of the Week streak as well.
For the second consecutive week, Samuel Armenteros has won the GotW race, his cheeky flick-and-finish against the Colorado Rapids dominating the vote with a whopping 63 percent of ballots cast.
In a sequence that’s drawn comparison to an iconic goal scored by Dutch legend Dennis Bergkamp, Armenteros’ first touch utterly bamboozled Rapids defender Danny Wilson – and the Timbers’ Cuban-Swedish attacker made no mistake with his next two, either, setting himself to curl a clinical finish past Tim Howard to open the scoring in Portland’s 3-2 road win.
Sebastian Saucedo's devastating curler in Real Salt Lake's 1-0 win at Seattle finished a distant second with 17 percent, followed by the dramatic late winners from Chicago's Alan Gordon (10%), the LA Galaxy's Romain Alessandrini (8%) and the classy free kick scored by Gordon's Fire teammate Aleksandar Katai (2%)
Armenteros and the Timbers will look to extend their scintillating current form on Saturday, when the Galaxy visit Providence Park in a nationally-televised Western Conference clash (2pm PT | ESPN2).
