PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Timbers forward Reinaldo Brenes and midfielder/defender Eric Miller were named honorable mention on the Premier Development League Team of the Week for the final week of the regular season, it was announced today by United Soccer Leagues.
Both Brenes and Miller were recognized for their performances in the team’s 1-1 draw against Sounders FC U-23 in its regular-season finale on July 16. Brenes provided the equalizing goal on a free kick from 23 yards in the 27th minute to help the team battle back to earn a result, while Miller went the full 90 and helped hold Sounders FC U-23 to just nine total shots.
In total, the Timbers U-23s had four different players – Miller, defenders Mark Daus and Bryan Gallego and goalkeeper David Meves – named to the PDL Team of the Week during the 2013 campaign. Additionally, several players received honorable mention honors during the season, including forwards Mark Sherrod and Clark Phillips and midfielders Zach Barnes, Jose Ribas and Nick Palodichuk.
The Timbers U-23s face the Fresno Fuego in the Western Conference semifinals of the PDL playoffs on Saturday at Ventura College in Ventura, Calif., at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific). The winner will advance to the Western Conference final Sunday against the winner of the semifinal matchup between Victoria Highlanders FC and Ventura County Fusion at Ventura College at 5 p.m. (Pacific).
