PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers U-23s defender Bryan Gallego was named to the Premier Development League (PDL) Team of the Week for the sixth week of the season, it was announced Thursday by United Soccer Leagues.

Gallego, 20, earns his first PDL Team of the Week selection this season. He started and played all 90 minutes of the Timbers U-23s’ 1-0 road win over Sounders FC U-23s on June 9, helping lead the team to its fifth shutout of the season.

A native of Kinnelon, N.J., Gallego has played in three matches for the Timbers U-23s this season, helping the team record shutouts in all three matches. Additionally, Gallego has started and played the full 90 minutes in both of the Timbers U-23s shutout victories over Sounders FC U-23s this season.

Gallego is the third Timbers U-23s player to be selected to the PDL Team of the Week this season. Goalkeeper David Meves earned Team of the Week honors in Week 5, while defender/midfielder Eric Miller was named to the team in Weeks 3 and 4.

Currently sitting in first place in the Northwest Division, the Timbers U-23s (5-1-1, 16 points) wrap-up their four-game road stretch Saturday as they visit the Kitsap Pumas at Gordon Field in Bremerton, Wash., at 7 p.m. (Pacific).
