PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers U-23s midfielder/defender Eric Miller was named to the Premier Development League Team of the Week, it was announced today by United Soccer Leagues.
Miller (Woodbury, Minn.) helped the Timbers U-23s to back-to-back victories against Sounders FC U23 and North Sound SeaWolves FC in their first week of the 2013 regular season, scoring the game-winning goal in the 2-0 win over Sounders FC U23 on May 16. He also assisted on the game-tying goal to help the Timbers U-23s to a 3-2 comeback win over the Sacramento Gold in the first round of the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on May 14 at JELD-WEN Field.
Earlier this week, Miller, in his second season with the Timbers U-23s, was named to the U.S. U-20 National Team roster for the upcoming Toulon Tournament in Toulon, France. He will depart for national team duty Friday for the tournament, which runs through June 8.
Additionally, Timbers U-23s forwards Mark Sherrod and Clark Phillips received honorable mention honors on the PDL Team of the Week. Sherrod assisted on the team’s second goal against Sounders FC U23 and Phillips tallied both goals in a 2-1 road win over SeaWolves FC on May 18.
The Timbers U-23s play host to North Sound on Friday, May 31, at JELD-WEN Field as part of their third and final Providence Health & Fitness Day of the season; kickoff is 11 a.m. (Pacific). Tickets are available for purchase at the JELD-WEN Field box office and online at www.portlandtimbers.com.
