PORTLAND, Ore. - United Soccer Leagues today announced the Premier Development League (PDL) Team of the Week for Week 5, which included honorable-mention accolades for Portland Timbers U-23s forward Mark Sherrod.
Sherrod (Knoxville, Tenn.) assisted on both Timbers U-23s goals in a 2-1 comeback win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC U-23 on June 1 at JELD-WEN Field. After falling behind in the first half, Sherrod recorded his first assist of the season on the equalizer for the Timbers U-23s in the 65th minute. Just five minutes later, Sherrod found Cam Vickers for the game-winning goal. The match on June 1 was played before a PDL-record crowd of 8,174 fans.
Previously this season, Sherrod was named to the PDL Team of the Week in Week 2, scoring a brace against Fraser Valley in a 3-0 season-opening win May 11. He was then selected as the PDL Player of the Week in Week 3, after becoming just the fourth player in Timbers U-23s history to record a hat trick in a 4-1 win over Victoria on May 19. Sherrod has scored a team-high five goals and recorded two assists in seven games this season.
The Timbers U-23s close out a stretch of three consecutive away matches on Saturday, when they visit the Kitsap Pumas at Bremerton Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (Pacific).
