As September comes to a close, it's important to take a look back at the amazing run of form Portland Timbers midfielder Diego Valeri has had.
Four games.
Two goals--one of which won the MLS Goal of the Week.
Five assists.
21 chances created--good for tops in the league.
It was a month that Timbers head coach Caleb Porter thought had Valeri playing some of the finest soccer of his career. It's the kind of stretch run play that should put Valeri into the MLS MVP conversation.
Given all that, it should come as little suprise that Valeri is a finalist for the Etihad Airways MLS Player of the Month for September. Selected along with Steve Clark of the Columbus Crew, Landon Donovan of the LA Galaxy, Obafemi Martins of the Seattle Sounders and the New England Revolution's Lee Nguyen by the MLSsoccer.com editorial staff, Valeri is in some esteemed company.
