Green & Gold vs. Listos Verde
The Portland Timbers continue their busy pace of games turning from Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Minnesota to heading back to Texas to play expansion side Austin FC for the first time ever on Thursday, July 1. Kickoff is 6:30pm PT at the new Q2 Stadium with a nationally televised broadcast on FS1.
Thorns Say Hello to Lou
The Thorns will also be visiting a new stadium this week – Lynn Family Stadium – as they travel to face Racing Louisville FC on July 3 (4:30pm PT, Paramount+) in Kentucky.
Checking in on Copa América
Two Timbers players are still busy with their respective national teams this week as both Yimmi Chara’s Colombia and Felipe Mora’s Chile are into the knockout rounds of the 2021 Copa América.
Chile lost their final match 2-0 to Paraguay Saturday but are through currently sitting at third place in Group A. Depending on what happens in today’s final Group A match between Uruguay and Paraguay, La Roja could hold on to that third spot and face Peru on July 2 or drop to fourth and play Brazil on July 2.
For Chara’s Colombia, Los Cafeteros have wrapped up third place in Group B and will face the runner up of Group A (Peru or Argentina) on July 3. Chara appeared in the second half of Colombia’s 2-1 loss to Peru on June 20.
Taking Pride
As the matches for June for both Timber and Thorns come to a close, let’s take a look at the club’s Pride Month initiatives involving the Q Center. For every goal scored by the Thorns and Timbers in June, the club made a $100 donation to the Q Center. All told, the Timbers and Thorns each scored four goals in June for a total donation of $800.
But June’s not quite over. Fans can still order a special TikTok For Good Scarf with proceeds benefitting the Q Center And there’s a special edition Stand Together t-shirt honoring Pride that is benefitting New Avenues for Youth. Find them both at PTFC Authentics.
