Both the Frauen Bundesliga and Nadeshiko League were idle this week, but the W-League was in action while Nadine Angerer and Christine Sinclair both donned the colors of their respective national teams for international friendlies.
Angerer captained Germany in a pair of friendlies against two top European sides, France and Sweden. Germany came away with a 2-1 victory over Sweden thanks to a pair of late goals and a key save in extra time by Angerer to secure the win.
Sinclair wore the captain’s armband, playing all 90 minutes, in against Japan on Oct. 25 and a thrilling game that saw Japan score the game winner in extra time, 3-2, on Tuesday night in Vancouver.
Over in Australia, Steph Catley and the Melbourne Victory dropped a pair of close contests to Canberra United and Adelaide United. The Victory will look to bounce back with an important game on the schedule against league leaders Perth Glory.
After a week off, Amber Brooks and Bayern Munich continue play in the German Cup this weekend. The knockout stage begins as Bayern visits FF USV Jena on Sunday.
Rachel Van Hollebeke had some time to explore Japan with her Iga FC teammates including Boston Breakers midfielder Kristie Mewis. Iga FC returns to action this weekend against FC Kibi.
Allie Long made a special stop on her visit to Portland and is training hard this offseason back home on the east coast.
