CONCACAF Championships, Frauen Bundesliga, Australian W-League and more as Thorns FC players have been busy across the globe.
Thorns FC forward Alex Morgan and midfielder Tobin Heath both joined the U.S. Women’s National Team this week in Kansas City, Kan. ahead of the opening match of the 2014 CONCACAF Championships on Oct. 15 against Trinidad & Tobago. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Thorns FC forward Christine Sinclair and the Canada Women’s National Team got together over the weekend to take part in the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Race for the Cure.
Amber Brooks and Bayern Munich continued their strong play in the Frauen Bundesliga with a pair of wins in league play last week. Bayern earned a 4-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen on Oct. 2 and added a 6-0 win against MSV Duisburg on Sunday. The Thorns FC midfielder did not appear against Leverkusen, but started and played all 90 minutes in the win against Duisburg. Bayern currently sits third in the table just one point behind Turbine Potsdam and two off the pace of league leaders VfL Wolfsburg. Bayern and Turbine Potsdam clash on Sunday. Nadine Angerer has been quite the world traveler these last few months, but has settled in Brisbane with World Cup qualifying now complete. The Thorns FC goalkeeper saw action once again with the Brisbane Roar over the weekend as she started in goal in a 2-0 loss against Canberra United. Thorns FC defender Steph Catley helped the Melbourne Victory grab a point with a 1-1 draw against Sydney FC over the weekend. Catley once again went the full 90 for the squad as the Victory currently sit fourth in the standings. Catley and Melbourne face off against Adelaide United on Saturday.
In UEFA Women’s Champions League round of 32, Hanna Terry, on loan with Apollon Limassol in Cypress, started and played 81 minutes in a 1-0 victory against Brøndby IF on Oct. 8. The two teams meet for the second leg on Oct. 16.
