World Cup Notebook | Canada holds on to win Group A in a wild 1-1 draw with The Netherlands

Kaylyn Kyle vs. Netherlands 6.16.15

All three Thorns FC players: forward Christine Sinclair, midfielder Kaylyn Kyle and  defender Rhian Wilkinson earned minutes, helping Canada hold off a late-charging Dutch side to claim a 1-1 draw against The Netherlands in Canada's final group stage match. Despite surrendering a late goal, Canada topped Group A as a result of a 2-2 draw between China and New Zealand in the other group match of the day.

Kyle, making her third appearance of the tournament, earned her first start at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup and her fourth start all-time in a World Cup match, logging 61 minutes. Sinclair started and played all 90 minutes for her third straight match. Wilkinson made her first appearance of the tournament, playing in her hometown Montreal, as she entered the match in the 81st minute to become the seventh Thorns FC player to appear in a 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup match.

Ashley Lawrence gave Canada the early lead in the 10th minute as the 20-year old collegiate player from West Virginia scored her first international goal and became the first Canadian player other than Sinclair to score a goal in the World Cup since 2007.

Canada advances to the Round of 16 to take on the third place finisher from either Group C, D or E in Vancouver on Sunday, June 21, at 4:30 p.m. (PT) on FOX Sports 1.
