Thorns FC goalkeeper Nadine Angerer, playing in her third FIFA Women’s World Cup, had a relatively quiet afternoon as the #1 ranked team in the world recorded a 10-0 win over debutant Ivory Coast. (WATCH:official match highlights).
Angerer made two saves in the match, but was hardly tested as teammates Celia Sasic and Anja Mittag each registered a hat-trick in the victory. The clean sheet was Angerer’s eighth in a FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Germany now has 101 goals all-time in the FIFA Women’s World Cup; the most scored by any team, and came up just one short of tying the record of the largest margin of victory in a Women’s World Cup match after recording an 11-0 score line against Argentina in 2007.
Group play continues for Germany on Thursday, June 11, against Norway, who earned a 4-0 win over Thailand in its opening group game, at 1 p.m. (Pacific) on FOX Sports 1, which will likely determine the winner of the group.
