PORTLAND, Ore. – The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) today announced its list of allocated national team players for the upcoming 2014 season, in which Portland Thorns FC add Mexico Women’s National Team forward Jackie Acevedo to the club’s roster.

Acevedo, 26, joins the Thorns’ list of allocated national team players with Rachel Buehler (USA), Tobin Heath (USA), Karina LeBlanc (Canada), Alex Morgan (USA) and Christine Sinclair (Canada).

A total of 50 allocated national team players, spread across the league’s nine clubs, will be participating in the 2014 NWSL season – 26 from the U.S. Women’s National Team, 16 from the Canada Women’s National Team and eight from the Mexico Women’s National Team. Acevedo is one of 11 newly allocated national team players for the upcoming campaign.

Acevedo recently played for the Mexico Women’s National Team in a friendly against Canada at BC Place in Vancouver, B.C., on Nov. 24, 2013. She was a member of Mexico’s U-20 Women’s National Team that competed in the 2006 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, starting both of her appearances. As a youth, Acevedo also represented the United States at both the U-16 and U-17 levels.

An impact player for the Houston Aces of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) in 2013, Acevedo ranked among the league’s scoring leaders with five goals and four assists in nine league appearances and earning All-WPSL Team honors. Her assist total was tied for third-best in the league. Acevedo helped the Aces to a 12-1-0 (36pts) record, capturing both the division and conference titles as the team reached the WPSL Championship match, and she scored the team’s lone goal in the final.

She played the 2012 WPSL season with Oklahoma FC, where she ranked third in the league in scoring with 26 points, notching 12 goals in 10 games. Acevedo’s career also includes time with the Hudson Valley Quickstrike of United Soccer Leagues’ W-League, helping the club to the 2010 regular-season championship as one of the league’s top scorers that season.

Acevedo was a three-time NAIA All-American during a standout collegiate career at Southern Nazarene University (Okla.) from 2009-11. She registered 80 goals and 41 assists in 62 games over three seasons with the Crimson Storm. She led the nation in goal-scoring with a school-record 38 goals as a senior in 2011, earning Sooner Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors for a second straight season. Acevedo began her collegiate career in 2008 at the University of Tennessee.
