Portland Timbers goalkeeper Jake Gleeson has been rewarded for preserving his team’s 2-2 draw at Real Salt Lake last weekend, winning MLS Save of the Week honors for his outstretched second half stop on Yura Movsisyan.
Gleeson kept the match knotted at 2-2 in the 74th minute, diving to his right to keep out Movsisyan’s curling left-footed effort from 15 yards. This is the first Save of the Week win of the year for Gleeson, who has appeared in 10 regular season games.
Gleeson dominated the final round of voting, smashing D.C. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid by a 67-33 percent margin. He beat out Chicago Fire ‘keeper Sean Johnson in the first round and Toronto FC backstop Clint Irwin to advance to the final.
