With their clutch 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids this past Sunday, the Portland Timbers control their own destiny in the race to the Audi 2016 MLS Cup Playoffs. The math is simple: win this Sunday against Vancouver Whitecaps FC (1pm PT, ROOT SPORTS), and the team is in.
Should the Timbers win, they could vault to as high as fourth place and claim with it a home playoff match in the Knockout Round. There are four teams jockeying for position in the Western Conference along with the Timbers: Real Salt Lake, Seattle Sounders FC and Sporting Kansas City. Keeping an eye on their matches on MLS Decision Day will help figure out where Portland could end up.
Sporting Kansas City vs. San Jose Earthquakes – 1pm PT
Seattle Sounders FC vs. Real Salt Lake – 1pm PT
Here’s how it all breaks down on where the Timbers could end up in the final standings and seeding for the playoffs.
