KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Timbers midfielder Diego Valeri scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season–a golazo in the 26th minute–as Portland drew 1-1 with Sporting Kansas City at Children's Mercy Park Sunday afternoon. Kansas City's Daniel Salloi had the goal for Sporting.

26' - GOAL (POR) - The Timbers got on the board first as midfielder Sebastián Blanco deftly fed Valeri on the break. Valeri dribbled ahead confidently before unleashing knuckling rocket of a shot from 25 yards out that rifled past KC goalkeeper Tim Melia into the upper right corner for a 1-0 Portland lead. 10th goal of the season.

61' - GOAL (SKC) - Sporting tied the game up in the 60th minute as midfielder Roger Espinoza looped a ball over the Portland backline for Daniel Salloi. Salloi took a touch and then scored to make it 1-1.
66' - CHANCE (POR) - Darren Mattocks, who came in for Portland in the 60th minute, took a pass from Fanendo Adi in the box and launched a hard shot that rose just over the bar.
73' and 74' - PENALTY AND CHANCE (POR) - Valeri fed a perfect through ball to Adi into the box who rounded Melia and was cut down in the process. Referee Alan Kelly pointed to the spot for a penalty which Valeri took but his attempt was saved by Melia and knocked out for a corner.
75' - CHANCE (POR) - On the ensuing corner, Ben Zemanski fed it short to Blanco who then gave it back. Zemanski's diagonal ball found Lawrence Olum lurking on the back post but he hit his header over the bar.
The Portland Timbers will have a short turnaround as they return home to host the Chicago Fire on Wednesday, July 5 at Providence Park (7:30pm PT, KPDX).
