His first MLS goal, his first log slab and a celebration with the Timbers Army? Add one more honor to the memory.
Samuel Armenteros raced more than half the length of the Providence Park pitch to score his dramatic game-winning goal for the Portland Timbers vs. LAFC on Saturday, and his effort has cruised to victory in the Week 12 AT&T Goal of the Week race in similar fashion.
The Swedish striker’s solo strike garnered 47 percent of the votes cast, comfortably outpacing second-place finisher Carlos Vela (22%), who netted the latest example of his signature left-footed curling finish into the top corner in the same match.
Toronto FC local kid Ryan Telfer came in third (19%) for his savagely-struck winner against Orlando City, while the two mirror-image goals from Homegrown fullbacks Reggie Cannon of FC Dallas (9%) and Nick Lima of the San Jose Earthquakes (3%) brought up the rear in the Week 12 balloting.
Armenteros capped his first MLS goal with a delirious charge up to the capo stand to celebrate with the Timbers Army, and the memorable moment extended Portland’s winning streak to five consecutive matches.
