Timbers Army smoke, Timbers vs. LA, 6.2.18

For the Round of 16 of the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the Portland Timbers will welcome the LA Galaxy Friday at Providence Park (8pm PT, Webstream at Timbers.com, TICKETS). Here are five numbers to know for PORvLA in a special U.S. Open Cup edition of Quick Strikes.

2X2 With his goal in the fourth round against San Jose, Dairon Asprilla became one of two players in the Timbers' all-era history to score two or more goals in both the MLS Cup Playoffs and the U.S. Open Cup. The only other player to do so is the club's all-time leading goalscorer, Diego Valeri

8 Portland has had success when playing competitive matches on Friday nights. The club is unbeaten in its last eight Friday night matches, with a 5-0-3 record.

7 In Portland's fourth-round victory over the San Jose Earthquakes, seven players made their competitive debut for the Timbers. One of those was Modou Jadama, who then made his MLS debut later that week against Sporting Kansas City.

3 The match will be the second time that the Timbers have squared off with the Galaxy in the U.S. Open Cup, having last played LA in the competition in 2016. The Galaxy will become the third MLS team Portland has faced multiple times in the Cup, joining Seattle Sounders FC and the San Jose Earthquakes.

1999 For the first time since 1999, a U.S. Open Cup match featuring at least one MLS team will take place on a Friday. The last time this occurred was when the visiting Colorado Rapids defeated the Tampa Bay Mutiny on Aug. 13, 1999, in an MLS regular-season match that doubled as a Cup quarterfinals match.
