MATCH RECAP | Minnesota United FC 3, Portland Timbers 2

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. â€“ Despite scoring a goal in each half, the Portland Timbers lost 3-2 to Minnesota United FC Wednesday night at TCF Bank Stadium. Portland goals came from Diego Valeri–his team-leading ninth of the season–and an own goal set up by defender Vytas.

Match Moments

6' - SAVE (POR) - Portland goalkeeper Jeff Attinella leapt high to palm over the bar a direct shot from Loons midfielder Kevin Molino.

7' - GOAL (MIN) - Minnesota's Sam Cronin crossed in a ball from the right side that deflected off Portland's Amobi Okugo and into the net for an own goal and a 1-0 Loons lead.

24' - CHANCE (POR) - After a string of possession for Portland, midfielder David Guzmán fired a left-footed shot from outside the box that knuckled but was saved by Minnesota's Bobby Shuttleworth.

37' - GOAL - PK (POR) - Following a play where the ball was played through to spring Diego Valeri at the top of the box, Minnesota's Shuttleworth came off his line in an attempt to punch it away but knocked Valeri down in the process. Referee Ted Unkel immediately pointed to the spot to which Valeri stepped to and buried the ensuing penalty kick equalizer. Tie game at 1-1.

47' - GOAL (MIN) - Minnesota's Kevin Molino slipped a ball through the Portland defense to forward Christian Ramirez who took a touch and then hit it past Attinella for a 2-1 Loons' lead.

49' - GOAL (POR) - However, just two minutes later, Portland stormed back for a goal of their own. Diego Chara worked the ball to Sebastián Blanco on the left who then passed on to defender Vytas. Vytas, who had subbed in at half, lofted a cross into the mixer that deflected off of Loons defender Francisco Calvo for an own goal and an even scoreline at 2-2.

Just minutes after falling behind again, Vytas went and did this (thanks for the deflection, @MNUFC). 2-2. #MINvPOR#RCTIDpic.twitter.com/lpmLm9EFkQ

70' & 71' - RED CARDS (MIN & POR) - Minnesota's Danladi and Portland's Blanco both received straight red cards after Danladi took down Blanco from behind and the two scuffled on the ground. Both teams played the rest of the game with 10 men.
