PORTLAND, Ore. – Celebrating their 10th anniversary in MLS, the Portland Timbers will play host to Minnesota United FC at Providence Park in the club’s 2020 season opener on Sunday, March 1 at 4:30 p.m. (Pacific), it was announced today as the league unveiled details for each club’s home-opening match for the 25th season of Major League Soccer.
In two MLS home-opening matches at Providence Park against Minnesota, Portland is undefeated (2-0-0). The Timbers recorded a 5-1 victory in Minnesota’s inaugural MLS match on March 3, 2017, before earning a 3-2 win against the Loons on April 14, 2018. The March 1 match marks the fifth time the Timbers open their home schedule against a Western Conference opponent. Since 2011, Portland is 5-1-3 in its MLS home openers.

During the 2020 MLS regular season, each club will play 34 games, including 17 home games and 17 away games. Teams will face each of their conference opponents twice during the season, one game at home and one game away, for a total of 24 matches. The additional 10 regular season matches will be played against opponents from the other conference. Those inter-conference opponents will be revealed with the full 2020 schedule in the coming weeks.
