Timbers defender Marco Farfan called up by U.S. Men's National Team

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers defender Marco Farfan has been called in by the U.S. Men’s National Team for an international friendly against El Salvador on Dec. 9 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., it was announced today. 


U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Gregg Berhalter has called 22 players to training camp in South Florida ahead of the USMNT’s last competitive match of 2020 against El Salvador on Dec. 9 at 4:30 p.m. (Pacific). The match will be broadcast live on an ESPN Network, UniMás and TUDN.


Farfan, 22, is the first product of the Timbers Academy to earn a call up to the senior men’s national team, and has previously represented the United States at the youth level. Farfan was called in by the U.S. U-23 Men’s National Team for a domestic training camp in Herriman, Utah in 2019. Additionally, Farfan is one of 11 players in the USMNT camp that have an opportunity to earn their first cap.


The Gresham, Ore., native logged a career-high 854 minutes of action in 14 appearances (9 starts) for the Timbers during the 2020 MLS regular season. Across all competitions in his career for Portland, Farfan has appeared in 37 matches (24 starts). Notably, Farfan was part of the squad that won the MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando, Fla.
