Portland earns additional point with 4-1 shootout win

BURNABY, B.C. - Timbers2 and Whitecaps 2 played to a 2-2 draw in regulation at Swangard Stadium Sunday afternoon. Gogo Peters and Blake Bodily scored their first goals of the season, while Pablo Bonilla provided two assists for T2 to help secure their first points of 2022 MLS NEXT Pro season.

With the match ending in a draw, the two teams went to a shootout to determine who would earn an additional point and Portland prevailed with a 4-1 shootout win to earn two points from the match. Gerardo Duran, Selmir Miscic, Blake Bodily and Justin Rasmussen all converted their kicks from the spot.

Goal-Scoring Plays

T2 – Gogo Peters (Pablo Bonilla), 44th minute: Bonilla dribbled past multiple defenders inside the box and played a pass to the edge of the six-yard box for Peters, who took a right-footed, one-touch shot that found the lower-left corner of the net.

VAN – Owen Antoniuk (penalty kick), 76th minute: Antoniuk converted a penalty kick after Portland committed a foul inside the box.

T2 – Blake Bodily (Pablo Bonilla), 84th minute: Bonilla dribbled down the right side and floated a cross into the center of the box for Blake Bodily, who delivered a header from close range into the back of the net.

VAN – Owen Antoniuk (Vasco Fry), 90+5 minute: Fry played a long cross from the middle of the field into the box and Antoniuk converted with a header from the left side of the six-yard box into the top right corner of the goal.
