Timbers2 Postgame Quotes

T2 head coach Shannon Murray

On tonight’s match…

“Good, but more importantly the performance as well. I think some of the strides we’ve made over these last two weeks or so, the week prior to Vancouver, the week leading into Houston and now this last week starts to play out on the field a little bit and we’re making strides. So, that plus two points were both huge positives of the night.”

On what impressed him from tonight’s performance…

“I saw the scoreboard, I don’t know if that’s accurate, but we created 19 shots which I am assuming is our season high. How many of those were good quality opportunities seems to be on a high. So, our unbalancing the opponent or putting our opponent in bad situations, and then getting in behind the opponent to create quality chances were quite good tonight and that was our focus all week in training. Then some adjustments at halftime, and how we defended, were some good spots as well. So very happy with the group all around, and the efforts they put in terms of what we’ve asked for them all week to put it into play in the game were quite good tonight.”

On his speech before the penalty kick shootout…

“I think the message was pretty similar to the Vancouver game, whatever just happened over those 90 plus minutes is over now, and now we have five kicks to go get a point and go get an extra point, and the more we get those extra points in games like this, the more that is going to beneficial for us at the end of the year. So, concentrate, relax, and pick your spot, hit it, and go from there and Hunter will do his job on his end when he gets the moment.”

T2 goalkeeper Hunter Sulte

On his feelings about the win tonight...

“I felt good. I think we could have come out with three points, but it’s just an unfortunate card, I am glad we got the PK win and two points. That helps us go up in the standings.”

On what his coach was saying before the shoot-out...

“He was saying be big and try to dive past the post because we watched the MLS cup pks and try to mimic those two goals again.”

On how it felt to save one of the PKs in tonight’s shoot-out...

“It’s an ecstatic feeling, it’s unreal and once you’re in the moment you just kind of go crazy.”

T2 midfielder Blake Bodily

On how it felt to get the first goal of the night...

“It was good, but I feel like at the same time we could have put a couple more in and gotten a win. Tying 1-1 is all right, but when you’re home you always want to win. So, getting the first goal was great, but we always want more.”

On what was going through his head before the shootout…

“I don’t know, just make sure I score. That’s the only thing I’m worried about.”

On what he looks to improve in the next game...

“I think next game we just need to continue what we’re doing but finish our chances. I think if you look back at the game we had lots of opportunities to score. If we capitalize on that I think we are going to get a good result next game and finally get the three points we need.”
