For the first time in nearly a decade, Portland Timbers2 will compete in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Timbers2 begins its journey in the 2024 U.S. Open Cup in the first round on Tuesday as it plays host to El Farolito FC at Providence Park; kickoff is 7:30pm PT.
Tickets for the match are $10; seating at Providence Park is general admission.
Timbers2 and El Farolito are among a pool of 64 teams competing in the first round of the tournament.
The last time T2 appeared in the U.S. Open cup was in its inaugural season back in 2015. T2 claimed a second-round win against the Michigan Bucks on the road, thanks to goals from Kharlton Belmar and Fatawu Safiu. Then in the third round, T2 fell to Seattle Sounders FC 2 in extra time despite 14 saves from goalkeeper Justin Luthy.
El Farolito SC is an amateur team based in San Francisco, Calif., who plays in the National Premier Soccer League. The team is best known for its 1993 U.S. Open Cup championship under its previous name, Club Deportivo Mexico. El Farolito last competed in the 2019 and 2017 U.S. Open Cup tournaments.
The 32 winners of the first round will play each other in the Second Round of the tournament in early April.
