T2 recognized for defeating Cascadia rival Tacoma Defiance 4-1 on May 10 at Providence Park
PORTLAND, Ore. – Timbers2 picked up their first team recognition of the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season, being named Team of the Matchweek 9, the league announced today. The honor comes after the club claimed a 4-1 victory over Tacoma Defiance on May 10 at Providence Park.
T2 scored three times in the first 16 minutes of the match, with goals from Blake Pope (4’,14’), and Josh Penn (16’). Noah Santos scored his second goal of the season immediately after halftime, in the 46th minute. The three-goal margin of victory was the club’s largest yet this season.
The win helped Timbers2 maintain their perfect record (2-0-0) since Serge Dinkota was announced as the new full-time head coach on May 3 after he served as interim to start the 2024 season. The back-to-back results marked T2’s first stretch of consecutive wins in 2024, coming off a 2-0 victory over Whitecaps FC 2 on May 3.
T2 returns to the road for Matchweek 10, where it faces North Texas SC at 5:30 p.m. (Pacific) May 18 at Choctaw Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The match will be streamed on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV App.
