PORTLAND,  Ore. – Timbers2 extended their home unbeaten run to three games with a 1-1 draw against Houston Dynamo 2 on Friday night at Providence Park. Josh Penn scored the club’s first free-kick goal of the season early in the first half as T2 came away with two points thanks to a penalty kick shootout win, 4-3.

Home Field Advantage

With the result, T2 improved to 3-2-1 at Providence Park so far this season. The club has outscored opponents 7-2 in its last three home matches. Additionally, Penn returned to the score sheet for a second consecutive home match, scoring his free kick in the 10th minute to give his team an early, 1-0 lead.

T2 hasn’t lost at home since a 4-3 result against MNUFC2 on April 21. Outside of that result, the club has picked up results against Colorado Rapids 2, Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2, Tacoma Defiance and Houston Dynamo 2.

Earning an Extra Point

T2 has now won two of the four penalty kick shootouts it has participated in so far this MLS NEXT Pro season. Notably, they lead the league in the number of shootouts they have taken part in, tied with Chatanooga FC, North Texas SC and The Town FC.

The last time T2 emerged from a match with two points came on March 30, when it beat Whitecaps FC 2 by a score of 3-2 in penalties, following a 2-2 draw at BC Place. Friday marked the first penalty kick shootout to take place at Providence Park this season.

Goal-Scoring Plays

POR – Josh Penn, 10th minute: With a set piece awarded to T2 just outside the 18-yard box, Josh Penn stepped up and struck a perfectly-placed free kick around the wall and into the top left corner of the net.

HOU – Gabriel Segal, 27th minute: With Dynamo 2 awarded a free kick on the left side of the box, Gabriel Segal fired a driven shot from distance that T2 goalkeeper Trey Muse got a hand to, but his parry deflected off the post and bounced over the line.
