PORTLAND, Ore. – Playing the final game of a two-match home stand, T2 will play host to Cascadia-rival Seattle Sounders FC 2 on Thursday, Aug.17. Set to begin at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific), Thursday’s match will be available via a live, high-definition web stream at www.timbers2.com.
Thursday’s match marks the third and final game between the two clubs in 2017, with Portland being dealt losses by Seattle on the road at Starfire Stadium on April 2 and May 5.
T2 (2-17-3, 9pts) enter Thursday’s match looking to bounce back from a 1-0 loss to Sacramento Republic FC at Providence Park on Sunday. Sacramento scored the game-winning goal when Wilson Kneeshaw got on the end of Matthew Wiesenfarth’s flicked pass inside the box that released him into space behind the T2 defense and slotted past T2 goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh in the 14th minute. Portland, holding a 14-9 shot advantage in the match, had its best scoring opportunity late in the match when midfielder Omar Mohamed beat two defenders on the left edge of the penalty area and hit a low shot on target in the 88th minute that forced Sacramento goalkeeper Evan Newton into a strong save at the near post. Individually, midfielder Villyan Bijev leads the team with seven goals, while defender Marco Farfan and Mohamed are tied for the team lead in assists (2). McIntosh leads the USL with 74 saves in 16 appearances this season.
Sounders FC 2 (8-13-2, 26pts) enter Thursday’s contest after a 3-0 victory at home over Whitecaps FC 2 at Starfire Stadium on Aug. 13, which snapped a six-game losing streak. Seattle has a 3-7-1 record on the road this season and sits in 10th place in the Western Conference standings. Midfielder Zach Mathers leads the team and ranks tied for sixth in the USL in goals scored (9), while forward Irvin Parra leads the team with five assists this season. Additionally, goalkeeper Tyler Miller ranks first on the team with 41 saves and three clean sheets in 14 appearances this season.
