PORTLAND, Ore. – Playing the first of a two-match home stand, T2 will play host to LA Galaxy II at Providence Park on Sunday, July 9. Set to begin at 2 p.m. (Pacific), Sunday’s match will be available via a live, high-definition web stream at www.timbers2.com.
The match on Sunday marks the first of two regular-season matches between the two clubs in 2017, as both teams will meet Saturday, Oct. 7, at the StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium. In four all-time meetings between the two teams, the series is tied 2-2-0. In the last matchup between Portland and LA Galaxy II, T2 scored four second-half goals to record a 4-3 come-from-behind victory at the StubHub Track and Field Stadium on Aug. 6, 2016. Midfielder Villyan Bijev tallied a brace and added an assist on the game-winning goal from midfielder Neco Brett in stoppage time, while midfielder Blake Bodily tallied a goal to begin the second-half comeback.
T2 (1-13-2, 5pts) enter Sunday’s match after earning a point on the road in a 3-3 draw against Orange County SC at Orange County Great Park on July 1. Portland opened the scoring in the 31st minute after Bijev headed home midfielder Tomás Granitto’s delivery from a corner kick. After Orange County took a 2-1 lead in the second half, T2 equalized when second-half substitute Russell Cicerone scored from inside the six-yard box in the 71st minute to record his first career USL goal. Bijev gave T2 a 3-2 lead in the 85th minute after he converted his third penalty kick of the season to record his team-leading sixth goal of the year. Orange County tied the match in stoppage time when Gustavo Villalobos tapped in from inside the six-yard box in the 91st minute. Goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh finished the match with a season-high nine saves.
LA Galaxy II (3-11-2, 11pts) enters Sunday’s match after falling 9-0 on the road to Reno 1868 FC at Greater Nevada Field on July 3, which extended a three-match losing streak. LA currently sits in 14th place in the Western Conference standings, and is 1-0-4 in its last five matches played. Forward Justin Dhillon leads the team with four goals, while three players are tied with two tallies apiece. Goalkeeper Eric López ranks first on the team with 22 saves in six appearances this season.
