PORTLAND, Ore. – Playing the first game of a two-match home stand, T2 will play host to Sacramento Republic FC on Sunday, Aug.13. Set to begin at 2 p.m. (Pacific), Sunday’s match will be available via a live, high-definition web stream at www.timbers2.com.
Sunday’s match marks the second and final game between the two clubs in 2017. In the first matchup this season, Portland defeated Sacramento on the road 2-0 at Papa Murphy’s Park behind goals from midfielders Villyan Bijev and Victor Arboleda on April 22. In six all-time meetings between T2 and Republic FC, the series is tied 3-3-0, with Portland holding a 2-1-0 record at home against Sacramento.
T2 (2-16-3, 9pts) enter Sunday’s match following a 4-1 loss on the road to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Weidner Field on Aug. 5. Heading into its 12th home match this season, Portland is looking to improve on its last win at home following a 2-1 win over Rio Grande Valley FC Toros on July 29 at Providence Park behind the first career goal from midfielder Omar Mohamed in the 26th minute, the game-winning goal from Bijev in the 81st minute and two penalty-kick saves from goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh. Individually, Bijev leads the team with seven goals, while defender Marco Farfan and Mohamed are tied for the team lead in assists (2). McIntosh leads the USL with 69 saves in 15 appearances this season.
Sacramento Republic FC (9-6-4, 31pts) enters Sunday’s match after a 2-1 victory at home over Whitecaps FC 2 at Papa Murphy’s Park on Aug. 5, which extended a six-match unbeaten run. Republic FC has a 3-5-2 record on the road this season and sits in fifth place in the Western Conference standings. Forward Trevin Caesar leads the team with six goals, while forward Samuel Ochoa has recorded five goals and ranks first on the team with five assists in 2017. Goalkeeper Evan Newton leads the team with 31 saves and five shutouts in 14 appearances.
