PORTLAND, Ore. – After earning their first victory of the season on the road last Saturday at Papa Murphy’s Park, T2 will play host to San Antonio FC at Providence Park on Friday, April 28. Set to begin at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific), Friday’s match will be available via a live, high-definition web stream at www.timbers2.com.
The match on Friday marks the first of two matches between the two clubs in 2017, as both teams will meet again Saturday, Aug. 26, at Toyota Field. In the only matchup between the two teams last season, T2 played to a 1-1 draw with San Antonio at Merlo Field on June 11, 2016.
T2 (1-5-0, 3pts) enter this week’s home contest looking to build off Saturday’s 2-0 win on the road over Sacramento Republic FC. T2 took the lead in the 40th minute after midfielder Villyan Bijev calmly placed his penalty attempt in the back of the net for the second goal of the USL season. Portland doubled its lead in the 68th minute when midfielder Victor Arboleda was first to a loose ball inside the box, rounded the goalkeeper and slotted home from inside the six-yard box to record his first goal of the year. With the goal, Arboleda was named to the USL Team of the Week for Week 5.
San Antonio FC (5-0-1, 16pts) enters Friday’s match looking to extend an unbeaten start to the season following its 3-2 win on the road over Seattle Sounders FC 2 on April 25 at Starfire Stadium. San Antonio holds the best record in the USL in 2017 and sits in first place in the Western Conference standings. Midfielder Billy Forbes leads the team and ranks tied for second in the USL with five goals this season, while also leading the team and ranking third in the USL with three assists. Goalkeeper Matt Cardone is tied for the USL lead with three shutouts and ranks tied for fifth in saves (16).
