Leagues Cup is only 100 days away. Timbers host Colorado Rapids and Club LeĂłn in group play; tickets for both matches are on sale now.

The countdown clock is ticking and the 2024 Leagues Cup is just 100 days away! The summer event promises to deliver action-packed intraleague soccer as LIGA MX and MLS go head-to-head to determine one Leagues Cup champion.

It all starts in the group stage where the Timbers and 46 other teams will battle to earn top-two status in their respective groups and subsequently qualify to the Knockout Stage Round of 32. The Leagues Cup 2024 Final and the Third-place match will be played on Saturday, August 25, which will determine the three clubs that will qualify for the 2025 Concacaf Champions League.

All of the Leagues Cup action can be streamed in English and Spanish on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.

Battle of the Green

The Portland Timbers are set to start their 2024 Leagues Cup campaign against Mexico's Club LeĂłn. It will be the first meeting between the Green & Gold and los esmeraldas, or "the emeralds". Club LeĂłn's history in Mexico sets them up as a formidable opponent, having played five finals in the last 11 years, and being crowned Mexican champions thrice over that span.

The Timbers have faced LIGA MX teams 12 different times, including two Leagues Cup matches in 2023, eight friendly matches dating back to 2007 and in Concacaf Champions League play against Club America in May 2021.

Friendly Foes

Portland's second and final group stage match is against fellow Western Conference rivals Colorado Rapids, their 31st meeting across all competitions. Portland leads the all-time series with 13 victories, 10 losses and 7 draws. When playing at Providence Park, the Timbers have won 11 times and only dropped two results against the Rapids (11-2-2). Notably, the Timbers opened their 14th MLS season with a 4-1 victory over Colorado Rapids on Feb. 25 at Providence Park.
