From Vancouver, Wash., to Beaverton, Ore., Day 4 of Stand Together Week saw volunteers join Timbers, Thorns FC and T2 players contribute to nine non-profit projects across the greater-Portland area.
Timbers Owner & CEO Merritt Paulson teamed up Portland Trail Blazers legend and current Univ. of Portland basketball coach Terry Porter, defender Liam Ridgewell and forward Fanendo Adiand T2’s Andre Lewis andJustin Luthy at the Oregon Food Bank, sorting food and stocking the pantry. Timbers defender Nat Borchers joined PlayWorks! and volunteers from adidas at Burton Elementary School in SW Washington for an afternoon of recess games and activities. Wonder how Nat faired on the tetherball court?
Day 4 was a day of outdoor projects. Timbers midfielder Ben Zemanski joined volunteers to beautify the garden at Gilbert Park SUN School. Midfielder Nick Besler, along with T2 players Michael Gallagherand Akindje Idowu, worked to improve the trails at Tualatin Hills Nature Park in Beaverton, Ore. Friends of Trees staff, Alaska Airlines and Daimler employees helped Diego Chara and Dairon Asprilla tend to trees at Durham City Park.
A second day of home building was on the cards for Day 4 for with Habitat for Humanity. T2 players Villyan Bijev and Seth Casiple assisted Providence Heath & Services employees in constructing portions of new homes.
Closing out the day, five players – representing all three teams – led youth projects at Living Cully Plaza. The group helped build garden beds, paint basketball courts and building a skateboard ramp.
