Three new faces were added on Tuesday to the inaugural Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game, as FC Dallas midfielder Danny Garcia, Philadelphia Union midfielder Zach Pfeffer and Real Salt Lake defender Carlos Salcedo have been added to the 20-man roster.
The trio replaces Montreal Impact youngsters Karl Ouimette and Wandrille Lefevre, both of whom had to withdraw from the game due to the Impact’s CONCACAF Champions League group match on Tuesday, August 5, as well as Seattle Sounders defender DeAndre Yedlin, who has been named to the AT&T MLS All-Star team.
The first-ever Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game will be played on Monday, August 4, at Providence Park in Portland, Ore. (FREE TICKETS), featuring 20 of the league's top Homegrown players matched up against the Portland Timbers U-23s as part of the festivities leading up to the 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game.
The game will kick off at 7pm PT and will be streamed live on WatchESPN and Timbers.com. Fans can secure free tickets to the game by clicking here. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis and quantities are limited.
FC Dallas’ 11th Homegrown player signing, Garcia has started all four games he has played in this season, won ACC Freshman of the Year honors in his only season with the North Carolina Tar Heels in 2012 and was a member of the US U-20 World Cup team.
The Union’s first homegrown player signing, Pfeffer was the fourth-youngest player to sign an MLS contract at the age of 15 and made his MLS debut against the Columbus Crew on September 17, 2011. He has represented the United States at the U-14, U-15, U-18 and U-20 levels and trained at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., as a part of the US Soccer U-17 residency program. Pfeffer spent last season on loan with TSG Hoffenheim 1899 in Germany and has made four appearances, including one start, for the Union this season.
A graduate of the Real Salt Lake-Arizona Academy, Salcedo made 13 appearances for RSL last season, 12 of which were starts. The defender has two appearances for RSL this season, with one start.
