As part of our inaugural group of ticket holders, Jon and Max won the chance to have a VIP experience for the Portland Timbers vs. Columbus Crew match on May 17th, including KeyBank Club seats, and a chance to visit with Timber Joey on the field!
We asked Jon a few questions after the match.
What was your first memory of/first match supporting the Timbers?
After moving to Portland from New York City in 2008, I started hitting Timbers matches shortly thereafter. I had MLS connected friends in NYC telling me I HAD TO check out the Timbers and sit with the "Timbers Army." It must have been 2009 when I went to my first USL match and was flabbergasted at the amount of support the team had. I've been a fan ever since.
What was your favorite moment of the match today?
Fernandez with the equalizer in the 85th minute.
Who would you nominate as Player of the Match?
Big tossup here – Nagbe, Zemanski, Jewsbury, and Will Johnson could all get it. I'll give the nod to Will Johnson for being "in it to win it" every second. I also loved his post-game interview!
What is your prediction for the next match – Timbers versus New York Red Bulls?
Anytime you have to play Red Bull Arena and against a legend like Theirry Henry can be tough, be looking for a Timbers win here. A momentum shift is about to happen, Timbers are at a tipping point.
What else should we know about your Timbers fandom? Any gameday superstitions?
My son Max loves going to games, and you could say his tradition is making sure he is wearing a 107 scarf and gets a Red Licorice Rope before the game starts. We both had a great time in our Axe experience and in the Key Bank section, particularly Max, as the red licorice was flowing heavy that night. Many thanks!
