The Portland Timbers adopted Friends of Trees as one of their nonprofit Pillar Partners for the 2011-2013 seasons. Over the last two years, the Timbers and Friends of Trees have planted over 400 trees in the greater-Portland area, which helps fulfill Friends of Trees’ mission to bring people together to plant and care for city trees and green spaces.

This past January, fans joined Eric Brunner (above) and Jake Gleeson in Springfield and Salem during the Dribble Oregon tour, presented by JELD-WEN Windows and Doors to plant 125 trees. In February, Timber Joey, Timbers Alumni Ambassadors, Timbers front office staff, Timbers Army members, and Friends of Trees volunteers gathered to plant hundreds more trees in the Boise, Eliot, Humbolt and King neighborhoods in NE Portland. Trees help create clean air and water as well as improve overall health in the greater Portland area.
“Friends of Trees engages citizen volunteers to plant and care for trees in their neighborhoods in several communities in Oregon and Washington," said Scott Fogarty, Executive Director of Friends of Trees.
"In addition to beautifying our streets, parks and yards, trees help clean our air and water, provide habitat for urban animals and birds and provide shade in hot summer months. Our relationship with the Portland Timbers and JELD-WEN Windows and Doors helps educate the public about the importance of the simple act of planting a tree and giving back to the community at large.”
The Timbers recognize that planting trees is one of many ways to continue the journey towards a more sustainable environment and are committed to increasing sustainability efforts across all aspects of the company alongside our community outreach platform, Stand Together. Stand Together represents the relationship between the Portland Timbers and their fans and signifies the strong commitment we have to supporting and standing by our community both on and off the field.
The Portland Timbers Stand Together mission is to harness the power of sport to improve the lives of children and families in our region through targeted programs, deep partnerships, and philanthropic giving.
