On a gorgeous night in the Rose City, the Portland Timbers got to work early against visiting Chivas USA. Maximiliano Urruti pressured the Chivas backline into making a turnover, he tapped the ball over to Darlington Nagbe. Nagbe thought about shooting but then laid it off to a sprinting Will Johnson. Johnson slammed it home on the run to the lower left corner to give the Timbers a 1-0 lead.
Chivas came pushing late in the second half. With an attack down the left flank, the Goats played in a cross that found Erick Torres lurking near the back post. He tapped it in to even the score at 1-1.
