The 2022 eMLS Cup presented by Coca-Cola gets underway this weekend in Austin, Texas at the SXSW Festival and eMLS competitor Edgar "RCTID Thiago" Guerrero and content creator Leah Revelle will be there.
After League Series 1 and 2 were both played remotely, eMLS Cup marks the return of in-person play for the first time in two years. Following the League Series tournaments, RCTID Thiago sat in 19th place in the 27-player full league table. The top 11 players qualified for Sunday's eMLS Cup tournament – more on that below – but RCTID Thiago and the remaining 16 players will compete in the eMLS Last Chance Qualifier tournament on Saturday, March 12 at Austin FC's Q2 Stadium.
eMLS Last Chance Qualifier
Format: The bottom 16 ranked eMLS players in cumulative season points compete in the eMLS Last Chance Qualifier. The 16 players will be split into four groups.
RCTID_Thiago is in Group A with New York City FC’s NYC Gustavo, New England’s YounggCarter and Vancouver Whitecaps FC's exraa.
Group Stage: Round-robin group stage play with each player playing every player in their group twice (total of six games per player). Each match will be one leg. The top two (2) players in each group advance to the bracket stage.
Bracket Stage: Eight (8) players, the top (2) from each group, compete in a single elimination bracket. Each match will be one leg.
The winner of the eMLS Last Chance Qualifier advances to Sunday’s eMLS Cup as the 12th seed.
While the eMLS Last Chance Qualifier is not streamed nor open to the public, follow @leahrevelle and @TimbersFC on Twitter for updates and results as Guerrero participates.
