Portland Timbers were in action Friday night with their respective national teams all vying for a spot in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Forward Ryan Johnson got the start for Jamaica in their 2-0 loss to the USMNT in Kansas City. Johnson played 85 minutes in the loss while Timbers teammate Alvas Powell was on the matchday 18 but did not make an appearance. The Reggae Boyz are now officially eliminated from contention for a World Cup spot and will conclude their campaign with a home match against Honduras next Tuesday.
Costa Rica, second in the CONCACAF Hexagonal and already booked their World Cup ticket, lost to Honduras 1-0 in San Pedro Sula Friday night. Timbers midfielder Rodney Wallace was on the bench for the match. They next host Mexico on Tuesday at the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica in Santa Fe.
