Colombian defender to join the U-23 national team in FIFA international period to face Mexico’s U-23 men’s national team
PORTLAND, Ore. – Timbers defender Juan David Mosquera was called into the Colombian U-23 Men’s National Team for the FIFA international period in September, the Colombian Football Federation announced today.
Mosquera will join Colombia to play a pair of friendly matches against the Mexican U-23 Men’s National Team (Sept. 9 & Sept. 12). The 20-year-old defender will join the team in Bogota, Colombia, following the Timbers’ road match against Seattle Sounders FC on Sept. 2, and will miss Portland’s home match against LAFC on Sept. 9. This season, Mosquera has started in 20 of 21 appearances for the Timbers, tallying two goals and four assists.
Mosquera has made appearances for Colombia’s youth and senior national teams. Mosquera made his debut with Colombia’s senior team on January 28 of this year, when he started in the match against the U.S. Men’s National Team logging a full 90-minute performance. Mosquera is set to join the U-23 team as they prepare for the 2023 Pan American XIX Games and the 2024 South American Pre-Olympic Tournament. The defender appeared with the Colombia U-17 Men’s National Team at the 2019 South American U-17 Championship in Lima, Peru.
