PORTLAND, Ore. – Playing an even game throughout, the Portland Timbers lost 1-0 to the Colorado Rapids Wednesday night at Providence Park.
52' - SAVE (POR) - After a scoreless first half, Timbers goalkeeper Steve Clark made a good save on a shot from atop the 18-yard box from Colorado's Cole Bassett.
58' - CHANCE (POR) - Portland had some sustained pressure around the Colorado 18-yard box. Diego Valeri – freshly subbed on only moments earlier – pinged a ball out to the left side for Marco Farfan. Farfan's cut-back pass went to Yimmi Chara who one-timed it but the shot went wide of the right post.
75' - CHANCE (POR) - Dario Zuparic spied an open Valeri along the edge of the box and passed the ball ahead to him. Valeri trapped the ball, turned to his left but then back-heeled a pass to Jorge Villafaña on his right. Villafaña's side-footed shot hit the side netting, just outside the left post.
83' - GOAL (COL) - The Rapids took a 1-0 lead in the 83rd minute when forward Diego Rubio slipped a pass through to midfielder Kellyn Acosta in the box who then scored.
90' - SAVE (POR) - Colorado's Nicolás Mezquida hit a low hard shot that Clark sprung to his right to knock away.
90+7' - CHANCE (POR) - Portland almost tied it late in stoppage time when Villafaña cut a ball back in the box for Dairon Asprilla. Asprilla – who was making his first appearance since a knee injury in march – controlled the ball in traffic and hit a hammered shot that clanged off the post and away.
